National Conference on Disaster Management


Inaugurating the National Conference on Disaster Management at the Asian Institute of Management & Technology, Dhaurang (Yamuna Nagar), Dr. K.C. Iyer, Vice-Chairman, IIT Delhi, cautioned the people about the environmental degradation causing numerous problems in the shape of Energy Consumption, Solid Waste, Waste Water. Gaseous Pollutants and Global Warming. He exhorted the people to became active participants in the Government initiatives to manage disasters playing havoc with the society, country and the world at large. He also talked about meltdown in global economy, cyber crime and safety hazards in construction and in industry. A Conference on Disaster Management is a need of the time, he said.

The Conference started with the lighting the lamp. The participants included Dr. Chandan Ghosh, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Dr. Anju Bajpai, Dr. Rajbir Singh, Mr. Aditya, Mr. Ashish Akhare. They hailed from the different management and technical institutes from far-off areas of the country giving a fair sampling of India’s concern for Disaster Management.

Dr. Amrik Singh, Dean of the Institute elaborated on the purpose of the Conference and said that the nature applied its own checks and balances when any human effort went against it. He illustrated by referring to the benign and benevolent aspects of nature and at the same time about the terrible and awe-inspiring images nature creates in order to destroy.

Dr. Anju Bajpai, Director of Utthan, a Social Work Organization exhorted the participants to take up the issues creating disaster in individual and family leading to social and natural disasters. She wanted the people to take initiative at the individual level to join as the willing partners in the Government Institutes.

Sh. Chander Bhan Bansal, Chairman, Om Educational & Charitable Trust running the Asian Institute welcomed the Chief Guest and the participants. He also briefly informed the audience about the establishment and the future plans of the Asian Institute.
Prof. D.K. Maharaj, Director-Principal welcomed the participants and read Out the report of the Institute.
